HOLY WEEK -- Monday

Homemade soft pretzels! Yeah, that's what our Monday of Holy Week family activity was! And what do soft pretzels have to do with Holy Week? Well, let's see...

1) We read the story of Jesus at the temple (Matthew 21:12-13) and shaped our pretzels into crossed arms to remind that God wants us to pray. "Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 'It is written," he said to them, 'My house will be called a house of prayer' "

2) Pretzels are a healthy treat -- important to take care of our bodies, the temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 3:16, "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?"
3) Our pretzels were very salty, reminding us that Jesus calls us to be "the salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13)

4) Every pretzel was different from the others. This reminded us of the unique & wonderful way that God has created each one of us. "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14)

The recipe (as well as some of the ideas we are using for Holy Week) can be found here.
